I am glad that you are seeing a specialist. Don't worry about the viral load - that does not need to be done regularly since it does not correlate with disease. The # goes up and down - don't let a high # scare you or a low # reassure you). However, the fatty liver is a bigger concern, and GT 3 tends to put you at a higher risk for fatty liver and disease progression. If you aren't already on the Hep Forums, I highly recommend them http://forums.hepmag.com/ Good luck with your appointment.

I was diagnosed in '99 wit Geno type 3 from a 1981 transfusion. I hooked with an ID doc who did my 1st year's initial work up. at the time my liver biopsy was fine and I was just told to monitor my liver enzymes and alpha-fetoprotein every 6months. had my up and downs but remained asymptomatic. Last year a gastro pulled blood and did a liver scan. Liver was a bit fatty but still ok. A year later it turns out that my viral load is nearly 25,000,000. I was never told to run that yearly. Still asymptomatic but my point is to be our own best friend and do the research to keep on top of it. I'm seeing a specialist next week and hope it's not too late. don't be a sheep.

Hi, I just found this forum. I'm glad that I can find information for my husband. He was diagnosed Hep C genotype 1 since 1.5 years ago.Latest fibroscan showed mild fibrosis and last week the liver doctor advised us to buy Sofosbuvir in India but we know nobody living there. We are from Indonesia and been living in Melbourne for 3.5 years and not entitled to Medicare as I'm an international student. Although I may be able to find someone to buy the medicine in India, I have another concern that my husband has kidney failure and been on dialysis for almost 2 years. I talk to his kidney doctor but she's not sure about the effect of sofosbuvir to his kidney. Anybody knows about this? Thank you.

Oh my heart aches, but since I've been there and I am now cured, I am holding out hope that you can be cured too. The meds in the pipeline are being tested on GT 3, and I suspect that by the time you are on Medicare, you will have some options. Medicare is covering treatment better than most other insurance carriers. Alternatively, see if you get in to a clinical trial, although these are far and few between for GT 3 relapsers. Keep reading our news and we'll be posting as soon as we know something. Make your health a priority and this may help - Living with hep C is like preparing for a major athletic event - the more you are in shape, the better your chances are of making it to the finish line.

I have geno type 3 hepatitis. I was first treated in 2001 with interferon and ribavirin and failed. I retreated this past January for six months with solvaldi and ribavirin and at three months no hcv was detected. That remained through treatment. I was just tested post treatment at 2 and half months and am now positive hep c and at 21,000 units. The disease is active again. I can tell you that when the disease left my body for a short time I felt it and have suspected for the last month it was back to due to that old familiar tired feeling. I guess now I am wondering if I can ever be treated again since I'm a two time non-responder and will be on medicare in five months. Any ideas or suggestions for next steps? Thanks,

Hi, This is a confusing journey, one that I wish you didn't have to take. But, you are asking good questions. As to treatment, there are a number of choices, even with low platelets; Liver transplant may be a choice. His new docs will make their recommendations. I suggest you join the Hep Forums (http://forums.hepmag.com) for asking questions around living with and treating hepatitis C. They are monitored 24x7 and you will find many folks willing to share their knowledge and experience. Peace and Health, Lucinda
