Beautifully and very well put. It never ceases to amaze me how blindly people will argue that which can be proven by fact. I also find the amount of blaming and negativity surround the CDC and flu vaccinations alarming. Thanks for sharing this.
Good for you Angel. You might want to double check on the pneumonia vaccines - you may need extra doses, but I don't think every year - there is a really cool graphic on the CDC website that shows all this stuff: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/easy-to-read/adult.html
I get mine every year and because of my low immune system I was told to get my pneumonia shot every year too!
Hi Lucinda, Great article! I just got mine. Thanks again for helping me as I was freaking out about relapse at 1 year. Now it seems silly as the odds were virtually nil. All that worry for nothing. Lol. You were there to help me as u are for so many heppers and former heppers. I will never forget how u took the time to respond to me. God Bless you Lucinda! Andy P.S. I'm finally to the point where I believe in the cure, I think. Lol
Thank you for taking the time to write. It is heartbreaking to see this. One thing that helps me is when I remember the kind, good people who reach out to the disenfranchised. There are many good people trying to do the right thing, and the top of my list is Diana Sylvestre in Oakland, CA (www.oasiscliniconline.org) who has been treating active drug users for more than 20 years. There are many, many more people like her - we just need to let people know who they are.
Hi Lucinda, This is unrelated to this particular post but I don't know how to contact you. I just wanted to say that I read your post on Huffington today and very much appreciate your speaking out on how the stigma of Hepatitis C has an enormous effect on whether or not we get treated. It took me over a year to realize that it was not so much a monetary issue, at least here in Oregon, as it is the stigma issue. Doctors are often not our friends if we have a history of drug abuse. They can be kind and considerate but if you are poor and on Medicaid and have a history, your odds of having a doctor treat you are slim to none. We have a huge heroin problem in this state that continues to baffle me as to why the drug is so readily available but that is a different issue. The crux of the matter in Oregon is that drug addicts are not worth saving -- be they clean for 40 years or no years. So, thank you very much for speaking out on this. There are extremely few advocates willing to talk about the real problem. Thanks again. Rubye For everyone else, go get your flu shot!
.Angel
You were right as usual, my fabulous liver Dr reminded me to get my flu shot ( which I did) and told me Thursday not to get pneumonia shot this year as I am getting stronger! Feelings Nguyen like Wonder Woman!
