Since I wrote this blog, evidence has emerged showing that acetaminophen may also cause a rebound headache. So the bottom line is, talk to your doctor about the safest way to treat a headache. As for drug interactions, check with your doctor, pharmacist, or check this hepatitis drug interaction checker: www.hep-druginteractions.org

Hi! Great article. I had a question about Harvoni. One of my patients finished her treatment and didn't have any side effects. A few months later she started experiencing massive headaches. Can this still be due to the drug?

My doctor told me that under NO circumstance, Do NOT take Tylenol it is poison to my liver!! Aspirin only and only a little bit if you HAVE TO take it for pain.

Your comments remind me that although research tells us that Tylenol taken as directed is safer than other OTC pain meds, that ultimately we have to find what works for us. As for what to do if you have a heart attack, the science and the advice are always changing, and your comments reminded me that we always should update are info. Unfortunately, it is hard to know who to trust, esp since the advice varies! The bottom line is, as you said, call 911.

Just had to read this article of your blog which I follow, since I've always took the Ibuprofen instead of the Tylenol. Thirteen years ago I was put on the old combo Pegetron/Ribavin, 1200mgs of Riba, and a weekly shot of Peg., now one of the main side effects in what I called a wheel of side effects, one week out of the month, I would get those terrible headaches that would last a week, I had some black heavy curtains in my bedroom, so the sun light wouldn't come into the room at all, so our RCN (Research Consultant Nurse) Ann Port from Ottawa Civic Hospital, the assitant of Dr Linda Scully a gi very well known in the world of Hep c, took over all cases of patients who went on this newly approved treatment for Hep c, told both my husband who had been put on a 50 patients list of clinical trial, in 2000, and did the 48 weeks of treatment almost immediately post being diagnosed. He was told to take Tylenol for the headaches if they indeed occurred which they did. You see in those days the tx was not approved yet, but by the time it was, I went on my 48 weeks journey, had this bad side effects (bad headaches)not being able to take Tylenol, due to my stomach becoming so sore, cramps ect from the Tylenol, I found the miracle pill for my case anyways... Advil Liquid gel cap for Migraine, it did wonders for me, but like any medication, they are designed to eliminate the pain temporarily, so every 4 to 6 hours I had to take 2 capsules at 500mgs, then Bingo the pain is gone for 4 to 6 hours, and repeat, until the circle of side effects I would get monthly was up to the next side. To this day I get those migraines, and always, always have a bottle of Advil Liquid Gel Capsule for Migraines in my purse. Now I have never research what % of people can or cannot take Tylenol's but I am one who cannot to this day. I always worry about having a heart attack, so I do have a bottle of Aspirin in my night table if it ever happens being home alone all the time, they recommend that we call 911 and break 2 Aspirin and wait, it helps the blood to thin, so I always think I will have a major belly ache if I do take those Aspirin. What to do ??? I love your blog because it always gives me answer to stuff I was never quite sure about having studied Hep c and it's treatment for over a decade now.. You are a gem to the Hep c world, and I love and respect your opinion big time my Warrior friend.. Mckenzie one day at the tim PS: both my husband and I have cleared the virus over a decade ago..
