NVHR is a program of the Seattle-based Hepatitis Education Project, which announced earlier this month in this letter from Board President Maria Corcorran that Apoorva Mallya will be coming aboard as the organization’s new executive director next month.

Dear HEP Community,

On behalf of the Hepatitis Education Project’s Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce Apoorva Mallya’s appointment as HEP’s new Executive Director effective June 12, 2023.

Apoorva comes to HEP from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where he spent the last 15 years working on his passion of delivering health services to the most vulnerable across the world.  He played a pivotal role in the global effort to eradicate polio, helping reduce cases by 99%, and has facilitated outreach to millions of vulnerable children in conflict countries with lifesaving vaccines. He is also passionate about supporting refugees and serves on the Board of Collateral Repair Project, an organization dedicated to war refugees based in Amman, Jordan. Prior to joining the Gates Foundation, Apoorva was a senior consultant with ECG Management Consultants, a healthcare consulting agency based here in Seattle.

We’d like to thank HEP’s staff for their tremendous work and commitment throughout this interim period, as well as Interim Executive Director, Liz Swanson, for her leadership over the past 18 months. Liz will transition to a consultant role to support Apoorva come June.

As we move forward under Apoorva’s leadership, HEP will continue its mission to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with viral hepatitis. Apoorva brings a tremendous passion for public health service delivery and a strong commitment to serving those who are most vulnerable. We are thrilled to have him at the helm as HEP celebrates 30 years of providing care for underserved communities disproportionately impacted by viral hepatitis.

With gratitude,

Maria Corcorran
HEP Board President
