An Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) HIV and viral hepatitis co-infection fellowship opportunity is currently accepting new applications in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH), Office of HIV/AIDS and Infectious Disease Policy (OHAIDP). The fellow will be involved in activities at the intersection of HIV and viral hepatitis in minority communities and mentored by the Viral Hepatitis Policy Advisor. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • doing research to identify and develop available data related to HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C co-infection and estimates of co-infection among specific populations;
  • identifying effective strategies to test, manage, and cure co-infected individuals as well as prevent viral hepatitis infections in people living with HIV;
  • developing, refining, and disseminating key communication on HIV/viral hepatitis via blogs and other social media;
  • and assisting in the implementation and monitoring-related activities of the Secretary’s Minority AIDS Initiative Fund (SMAIF) co-infection projects.

Qualified graduates with a Master’s or Doctorate degree in public health related subjects (e.g. epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy, and health systems) or related fields within the last five years are encouraged to apply for this opening. Preference will be given to those with academic concentrations involving aspects of population-based infectious diseases and/or substance abuse prevention and treatment. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of HHS contingent on the availability of funds.
