The National Viral Hepatitis Roundtable (NVHR), a national coalition working to eliminate viral hepatitis, has announced the 2021-2023 Strategic Objectives to guide the organization. The Strategic Objectives support a comprehensive and integrated response to viral hepatitis in the United States by centering the voices of people with lived experience, fighting for equitable access to viral hepatitis prevention and care, and advocating for fully funded state and federal elimination plans.

“NVHR has been a leader in the fight to eliminate viral hepatitis in the U.S. for nearly 20 years. In an effort to achieve our vision of an equitable world free of hepatitis, the 2021-2023 Strategic Objectives will guide NVHR as we continue advocating for better access to hepatitis prevention, testing, and treatment,” said Michael Ninburg, executive director of the Hepatitis Education Project (HEP), of which NVHR is an initiative. “Implementing the strategic objectives will help NVHR carry out our mission to eliminate viral hepatitis and improve the lives of those affected through advocacy, education, and support to national, state and local partners.”

NVHR’s efforts over the next three years will be guided by the following objectives:

  • Lead the viral hepatitis community in elimination advocacy efforts. This includes tracking and sharing resources and best practices for elimination planning and implementation; providing guidance and support to health partners on elimination strategies; advocating for robust federal leadership and resources; and increasing awareness and demand for viral hepatitis prevention, testing, and treatment.
  • Expand the reach and leverage the power of our grassroots advocacy network. NVHR will broaden and diversify our network of advocates; increase mentoring, networking and coalition building; provide timely and actionable updates; and amplify efforts to combat stigma and discrimination against people living with viral hepatitis.
  • Strengthen our national coalition and strategic partnerships. In addition to expanding advocacy efforts to remove barriers to treatment access, NVHR will also increase collaboration with partner organizations; ensure integration and alignment of viral hepatitis elimination strategies into comprehensive drug user health initiatives; and engage a broad range of stakeholders on shared priorities.

NVHR has also launched a refreshed website and a new look as its first step to implementing the strategic objectives for the organization. The new website will facilitate advocate connections across the country and improve opportunities for information sharing and action within the hepatitis advocacy community.

“NVHR is excited to launch a refreshed website that provides additional tools and resources to help advocates engage in the fight to eliminate viral hepatitis, enables better connections among advocates, and centers the voices of people with lived experience,” added Ninburg.
