Kim cudos to you for bringing the stigma to the forefront. It's always there. But children experiencing what your little friend is , REALLY? People these are innocents, not drug addicts.

My son was born with hep c. I didn't know that I had it at the time. He has just turned 13 and is showing signs of the disease. His liver biopsy is scheduled for tomorrow 11/18/14. I am very scared for him. He does not want to get it done but is being brave anyway. He hates having hep c but does not blame me like his father and father's family do. His Dad and I split after Dylan's diagnosis at the age of one and a half. Dylan is going to need tx soon and I will be there for him through the whole ordeal. The school nurse has been informed about his hep c status and he is not treated any differently from other kids.I thank God for this. It could be worse but God has blessed us and I believe in miracles.

My heart goes out to little Zachary and his family. I also adopted my beautiful daughter when she was 1 that was 18 years ago. I found out she had hep c when she was 2. I carried this secret for several years. Sharing it with a nurse and counselor friend. I asked a Dr.in this field in Washington what should I do meaning what kind of treatment should I do. She was a Dr.for children in this area she said "get another child". I was appalled and wanted to report her for her stupidity and lack of concern for a small human beings. I decided not to have her go on drugs as she was so healthy. I once put her on antibiotics and then never again. I did not want to weakened her liver in anyway. I could never get from Drs. what the success rate of putting a little person on a drug with such horrid side affects. Many many tears and prayers. When my daughter was 13 she had a liver biopsy. To monitor her condition. I told her not to tell anyone about her hep c as I wanted her to have a normal life. When she went to school a couple of days later her side was sore and the sub teacher told her to go play or else. My daughter was scared so she said she had a liver biopsy for hep c. The principal was ignorant about the disease as many are. I called a meeting with all the staff who found out. I told them to do research and get educated as I explained what it was. The nurse was very aware Thank GOD of what it is and calmed everyone down. I told them if it every got out that I would sue the school. As my daughter had a right to privacy. My daughter I felt was to young to deal with peoples ignorance. She is now a healthy 19 year old going to college. We are looking to put her on the new drug soon. The other drugs still had very little success rate. I am praying this new drug with sovaldi will have little side affects and a great curable report. I have been praying and waiting for 18 years for this miracle. I hope this drug will work for little Zachary. He is to young to be exposed to such meanness. After my daughter goes through the treatment I will be a voice for the young ones born of this disease. Because so few people knew and know about children born with this I kept it close to my heart doing healthy eating and research with blood check up to monitor the condition. I live in a very small community and my daughter would have been isolated and bullied. There is no way of getting around it. As a mother Kelly I understand your pain and worry. I too had/have many days of tears and still do until there is a cure for our children. I wish I had some wisdom to share with you as I am ahead of you in this journey. It is so painful and lonely at times to know what is best for your child you love with all your heart. I tell my daughter as her mother I baked her in my heart other mothers bake their child in their tummy. I wish I could take the pain away from little Zachary and their family. May God direct you in much wisdom and guidance. With warm regards, Sheila

This is powerful. How do you suggest we raise our voices or unite? Do you have the name of the school? We could write letters, call, offer training, but we don't want to intrude on Zachary's family's peace. Ryan White was a super hero. There were many others, including the Ray brothers (their house was burned down to get them out the area) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_brothers We seem to be a hard group to get organized, but what better cause than this? Thank you. Lucinda

The educators of little Zachary are far more dangerous to the children in his school than he is, Shame on the administrators of this school for not researching Hepatitis C as they would any affliction of a special needs child. In turn they they could address the parents and fellow pupils concerns, saving Zachary from undue shunning and embarrassment.
