I'm familiar with how it was a decade ago, so i can't fully speak to a lot of newer options for children. if you have questions you'd like to ask, feel free to email me at Canythingbutaverage@gmail.com Another advocate on this site Kim Bossley runs a foundation and may be better suited to assist you. http://blogs.hepmag.com/kimbossley/ Her Foundation: http://www.notwithoutafight.org/

I ran across your blog as I was researching pediatric hcv. We adopted a beautiful, beaming baby boy and last week learned he has HepC. We knew this was an option, but never thought would be our reality. I would love to share what we know so far and see if you could at all prepare us for our next steps. I am sorry to hear that Harvoni didn't cure the HCV from you, my heart sank when I read that. God Bless, Marissa

I've had stage 4 cirrhosis for somewhere around 5 years now, it's key to note that there are further differences within stage four. I am decompensated, which means my liver could fail within days-weeks at any given moment. Hence my bouncing avg MELD scores of ~17~30 in a given month. i was UND with Sovaldi, around 6 weeks in, and Harvoni at 4 weeks. I took a blood test the day i finished treatment that gave me a count of ~23,000. Ribavirin couples well with sofosbuvir, hence why it's added to some treatments of Sovaldi and Harvoni. My mother had a similar reaction to ribavirin/incivek. however it proved to be the incivek that pushed her to the edge. She was on procrit for months, and had multiple blood transfusions. Harvoni and Sovaldi add very little side effects of their own, because of this Ribavirin with these treatments should be a lot less intense than in the past. Additionally the added ribavirin is made on a case by case basis, studies reflect a negligible difference between adding ribavirin to harvoni in the case of cirrhosis. No worries, i find it hard to be pestered with questions. I've worked with kids for over 10 years, and did tech support for around 5. Every question is serious, and I answer what I can out of respect.
