In observance of Hepatitis Awareness Month, I am posting to this blog daily, highlighting websites and organizations that are doing remarkable work educating the public, raising awareness, and making a difference in the lives of those affected by viral hepatitis. I suggest you visit each site, and find out what they are doing, how you can stay informed, and possibly help with their efforts.

When I began hepatitis C advocacy work, there were a handful of organizations that were raising awareness (unlike now where there are more organizations than there are days in Hepatitis Awareness Month).  One organization was the Hepatitis Foundation International (HFI), founded byThelma King Thiel, aka the “Liver Lady.” Ms. Thiel has dedicated her life to educating people about the importance of liver health following the loss of her four-year-old son Dean to a rare liver disease in 1970. The Liver Lady has moved on to other liver-related ventures, but HFI still carries on in promoting liver wellness.
