The mother-to-child HCV transmission rate is roughly 6 percent; (roughly twice that in mothers who have HIV and hep C). The transmission rate remains constant, but if more young women use injection drugs, then the number of people who have hep C increases, thus so do the number of hep C-positive babies.

I share your horror at these statistics! Why? Please tell us more about WHY the rate among women of this age is increasing. I also thought I had learned that transmitting HepC to our children at birth was very rare and only came through unusual forms of blood transmission at birth.
