Jeff - this is one of the issues that has been hotly debated for years at hepatolgy meetings. I worked with a brilliant man who would not do biopsies unless there was a good reason. Ex: Be sure of diagnosis (rule out other liver diseases, which in your case has happened). I might consider it if I was near stage 3 or 4 and go on Sovaldi/Olysio or Sovaldi/PEG/RIB if it looks like I couldn't wait until one of the new treatments in the fall are approved. Bottom line, only your doc can tell you the answer to that question. And while you are asking it, also ask if you can have a fibroscan or one of the blood tests instead.

Please explain to me the necessity of repeated biopsies. I have had 3 and now refuse to have any more. In what way does it change your treatment or outcome?
