Took first pill this morning. Hoping for the best, still working full time.
So I guess we will all be among the first to see if cure means cure. I see my doc next week for the first results. He originally talked about doing labs every 6 months so I'll ask him to do another at the 3 month point. Good idea!
Deborah, I don't think that you are officially "cured" after 8 weeks of treatment. My doctor told me that he would monitor viral load monthly to ensure that I had a sustained virologic response (SVR) for 12 to 24 weeks. Maintaining an undetectable viral load for the 12 to 24 weeks post treatment would then be an indication that treatment was a success. With that said, he also indicated that based on the data from the clinical trials for Harvoni, if you have become undetectable by the one month mark, then that is a pretty strong indicator that treatment would be successful. This all came up in our discussions about me having another viral load test a few days prior to ending my 8 week treatment plan. He didn't think it was really necessary but did so for my peace of mind and that test at the end of the 8 weeks was also undetectable.
Has anyone been declared cured after just 8 weeks of treatment? I guess we are part of a limited group since this just came out in October but...
Kyle in response, by way of side effects, just what everyone else has said. I had fatigue starting around 5-6:00 pm, fogginess (can't remember song titles, etc..), hard time sleeping. However, after 5-6 weeks, that all went away. I am in week 8 now and don't have these symptoms any more. Also, it seems that if I drank a lot of water, the symptoms were less pronounced.
Congratulations! Are you experiencing any side effects due to your treatment?
Just got the tests back after 6 weeks on Harvoni. I am Hep C free. Doing another month. Thank you Gilead.
