Today, Thursday, July 28, marks the sixth annual World Hepatitis Day, a special awareness day designated by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA) to engage global efforts around viral liver diseases like hepatitis C virus (HCV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV).

The theme for this year’s campaign is “Elimination” in honor of the World Health Assembly’s decision this May to adopt the first-ever Elimination Strategy for Viral Hepatitis. The plan set the ambitious goal to eliminate hep B and hep C as public health threats by 2030.

In honor of World Hepatitis Day (WHD), health advocates worldwide launched NOhep, a global elimination movement that aims to bring people together and provide a platform for them to speak out, become engaged and take action to ensure that global commitments to end viral hepatitis are being honored. The campaign ultimately hopes to reach 300 million people around the world over the next 15 years.

To join the movement, log on to and sign up as an advocate. Upload your WHD activity to the site’s “map of impact” or download free WHD materials in a variety of languages. To speak out on social media, use the hashtag #WorldHepDay or add the NOhep logo to your emails, profiles or photos.
