The Vox article mentioned by the author at the end of his article is an excellent summary of how prescription drug prices are set, both in this and other countries. Most if not all other developed countries have government agencies that cap the prices that can be charged. Since we do not, US consumers subsidize drug development for the world. This might have been an acceptable tradeoff when the majority of pharmaceutical manufacturers were US companies. Today, they are not.
