Its great to see people having a voice over this matter-which for some is literally life or death. So the activits called for earlier access to treatments. The article is incomplete as there is no mention of a response from anywhere, or even a promise. Who are the activists I could do with a chat with someone. I have cirrhosis now and time is of the essence.Anyone out there-please make contact. Thanks
Rodney - Yes, it is hoped that the combination of two "direct acting antivirals" such as a protease inhibitor and an NS5A polymerase inhibitor will not only boost HCV cure rates, but potentially do away with the need for interferon treatment and its many side effects. Expect to see such clinical trials in the future.
Lisa - All of the new meds, including Victrelis, Incivek and the antivirals in development, should work better against genotype 1a than interferon and ribavirin alone. They should also work well in people with IL-28B TT, given that this gene only appears to affect responses to interferon therapy. Good news all around.
wouldn't it the treatment be more effective with both protease andpolymase inhibtors together?
Can you tell me what percent the new meds will work on a geno 1a and TT? With advanced cirrhosis viral 1 mill 500 non an never drinker or drugs Or even if the med is avaiable to a person as such. Lisa
