A project aiming to make Rhode Island the first state to eradicate the hepatitis C virus (HCV) recently won one of two $300,000 fellowship prizes from the Rhode Island Innovation Foundation, the Boston Globe reports.
Lynn Taylor, MD, a physician at Miriam Hospital in Providence, was chosen from a pool of 180 local entrants for the 2013 award, funded annually by local philanthropists John and Letitia Carter.
Taylor’s plan includes building hep C awareness, establishing rapid testing and improving access to care throughout the state. The other project that won a fellowship prize aims to train a new generation of tech-savvy designers.
