A former McDonald’s employee from Wisconsin living with the hepatitis C virus (HCV) has been sentenced to at least 29 months in prison for spitting into a police officer’s sandwich at a Michigan franchise in 2012, CBS Detroit reports. The decision from Dickinson County District Court follows a no-contest plea from 24-year-old Dalton Ursulean to placing harmful objects in food after genetic tests confirmed that he had tested positive for the virus after the incident. According to his attorney, Ursulean was unaware he has hep C until blood tests came back. The police officer who received the contaminated sandwich has since tested HCV negative.
