The short answer is that we don’t know, but we think lowering the ribavirin dose doesn’t significantly alter hepatitis C treatment response. Ribavirin reduction studies are too small and too few to be conclusive. Scientists aren’t sure how ribavirin works, but when it is combined with hepatitis C direct-acting antivirals, the relapse rate decreases in some situations.

That said, your health and safety are the top priority. Low hemoglobin, a sign of anemia, is potentially serious, and reducing the ribavirin dose may prevent serious consequences.
