This incomplete report raises more questions than it answers. There are thousands of green tea products on the market and three cups per day doesn't sound terribly excessive. Why not name the oroduct? Why not compare it to "pure" green tea? Also, speculation about the possible toxins in the product is not helpful without confirmation by reporting results of lab tests. Is the FDA involved? What is a consumer supposed to take away from this story? Should I stop drinking green tea?
The other commentor was correct in saying that the article is misleading and missing some pieces. The weight loss comment needs to clarified and maybe the brand of the item she consumed would be helpfull to see the ingredient list..... more research and info for such an alarming claim that affects millions of people.
highly irresponsible and misleading title. the girl's acute medical condition clearly had nothing to do with green tea. it was something in the "product" she got online.
Agreed with previous posts. The problem is the particular product the child used - not green tea in general. If green tea 3x a day was the problem, then hep would be endemic in Japan and China! Sensationalized reported is so unprofessional.
China strikes again. Never EVER buy food from China. Read, you fools! China has killed pets and kids with melamine additives, just to pass a protein level screening test, even though the stuff is poisonous. China is the Pit Of Greed.
I cannot understand why the doctors did not test the tea for other substances. In my 28 years of medical practice, I have seen a few patients who had liver failure from taking Chinese herbal remedies; the department of health tested the items.
Aloha, Green tea in and of itself does not cause hepatitis. If she was drinking a weight loss product from China, did anyone stop to do an analysis of the specific tea that she was drinking? There's your culprit, NOT green tea.

Not to be "racist" or "xenophobic" when I say that IMHO, my suspicion would lay not on GREEN TEA, per se, but upon the fact that it's from CHINA... Chinese manufacturers cut corners in obscene ways that would be illegal in most other countries,I'm not joking.Sawdust to fill out supplements for Christ sake! They either fumigated the schitt out of the plantsORfilled out the tea bags with a sprinkle of the real stuff and fill out the rest with lawn clippings. What kept her from supermarket green tea?
