The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) of the African Republic of Ghana has raised the alarm on the distribution and sale of a fake herbal medicine called HEPTA 3, which claims to treat the hepatitis B virus (HBV), typhoid fever and other immune-compromised conditions, GhanaWeb reports. Since the announcement, Dr. Akosua Adu-Ayaa and Akomea Sakyi, who operate an herbal manufacturing facility called Power Specialists Clinic/Power Health Products Limited, have been arrested for making false claims, because the medication cannot actually treat hepatitis B. Hepatitis is a viral disease, while typhoid fever is caused by bacteria, hence, one product cannot possibly treat the two diseases. The FDA is now asking the Ghanian public to report anyone found selling HEPTA 3.
