The American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) Foundation has announced the winners of the 2018 Research and Career Development Awards, pledging $4.06 million in funding toward the future of hepatology, according to a recent press release from the organization.

This year marks the highest level of funding in the history of the AASLD and AASLD Foundation. The awards will go to 36 future leaders in hepatology, who were selected based on their professional potential, experience in the field and quality of research.

Research areas to be funded include: securing education training for providers caring for patients with liver disease, providing critical funding for innovative liver research encouraging young investigators into the field of hepatology and increasing access to trained providers for patients living with hepatitis C virus (HCV), hepatitis B virus (HBV) and other forms of liver disease.

The funding was made possible through independent grants from the AASLD and unrestricted donations from AASLD, AbbVie, Allergan, Gilead Sciences and donors to the AASLD foundation. For the full list of recipients, click here.
