A 14-year-old girl from Antigo, Wisconsin, is pressing charges against her aunt after the woman allegedly injected morphine into her arm by force, which caused her to contract hepatitis C, WSAW reports.

According to the criminal complaint, in September 2012, 20-year-old Nicole Bessert asked her niece if she wanted to try morphine. After declining, the girl was then held down by her aunt and a friend while they stuck her with a syringe and later threatened to beat her up if she told anyone.

The girl’s mother says she is receiving treatment for hep C and counseling for depression in Milwaukee. Bessert is currently being held in county jail before a scheduled plea hearing on April 16.

Bessert has pleaded not guilty to the charges, including child abuse and false imprisonment. If convicted, she could serve a maximum 25-year sentence behind bars.
