Infant Breast-fed by Wrong Mother Gets HIV, Hepatitis Tests

A newborn boy in a Minnesota hospital was accidentally put in the wrong bassinet and was then breast-fed by the wrong mother, The Legal Examiner reports. The mix-up prompted Abbott Northwestern Hospital officials to give the child HIV and hepatitis tests, which were both negative. The hospital has apologized to the families involved and has pledged to investigate why procedures to avoid such incidents were not followed.
